By September 2014, Sharma is pursuing Master of Economics degree through correspondence. They started the practice of vegetarianism in 2015. The Times of India listed them as "the hottest vegetarian celebrities in Bollywood". He was named as "Most Vegetarian 2015" by Pita. He is a fond of transcendental meditation. Sharma is considered a victim of anxiety disorder and has sought treatment for it. By September 2015, Sharma is in the relationship with cricketer Virat Kohli. His relationship has attracted substantial media coverage in India, although he is reluctant to talk openly about it.

From practice, Hindu, Sharma is a follower of 'Anant dhamma ashtbodh ashram' in Haridwar with his family. The Ashram is headed by Maharaj Anant Baba, who is a spiritual guru of his family and a regular visitor to the actress Ashram.

In September 2013, Sharma took part in the ramp in a film show and organized in the memory of the late filmmaker Yash Chopra. He attended the inaugural function of the 2015 Indian Premier League to be held in Kolkata, which included Hrithik Roshan, Shahid Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Farhan Akhtar and composer Pritam.
